Standardize, review salary scale of district education officers, urges Tenom MP

-

TENOM: Tenom member of parliament Datuk Raime Unggi has urged the State Education Department to standardize and review the salary scale of district education officers in the state.

“The State Education Department will have to review in order to raise the grade of the post of education officer in the state from Grade DG 52 to DG 54,” he said when opening the Academic Excellence Award and the launch of English Day here.

He said this is because there are some district education officers in the state who are still holding grade DG52 equivalent to the post of secondary school principals.

Raime opined that in view of the more challenging tasks borne by the officers, it may become necessary to standardize the grades of District Education Officers.

At the same time, he said the district needs more teachers as there was still a shortage of teachers working in the area.

He asked the State Education Department to consider placing more teachers in the area.

On the occasion, Raime described it as motivating students and teachers to improve student academic achievement here.

“This award has entered the fifth edition this year, and has been implemented since 2012 and since the implementation of the award, schools in the area have been improving and achieving the goals set by the State Education Department.

“The award to schools and students in the area is to give them the recognition and appreciation for the efforts and sacrifices they made to achieve excellent results in public examinations.

“Educational results in the area have improved in recent years, not only the number of students who get all A’s but also every subject taken in both secondary and primary schools,” he said.

SM Chung Hwa and SK Chinta Mata in the district each received RM15,000 for achieving excellence in all aspects.

SMK Entabuan and SK Baru Jumpa each received RM10,000, while SMK Tenom and SK Tilis were given RM5,000 each.

A total of 72 primary and secondary school students in the district who achieved the best results in the UPSR, SPM and STPM examinations also each received a certificate of appreciation and cash.
