Five bombs not linked to terrorists

-

KUALA LUMPUR: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the discovery of five homemade bombs in a condominium unit in Damansara Perdana early yesterday has nothing to do with Daesh terrorists.

He said based on initial investigations, police believed that the bombs were to be used in a criminal activity involving several individuals and not for terrorism purposes.

“Police concluded that it has nothing to do with Daesh and IS... the national security is still under control, we are giving assurance to the public, especially to residents of the (Damansara Perdana) condominium, the police are in the full state of preparedness to face any possibilities,” he told reporters after attending ‘An Evening With Deputy Prime Minister’ event at Gapena House here yesterday.

The police earlier yesterday conducted a dawn raid at the condominium and found the home-made bombs in a unit, making over 200 residents rush out of the block.

Two Malaysians fled the unit on the 17th floor upon realising the presence of the police in the 4.30am raid that came in the wake of much surveillance, said Petaling Jaya Police chief ACP Mohd Zani Che Din.

“Police combed the condominium unit and found the bombs, electric circuit materials and substances used to make bombs.

“We also found a black box containing a quantity of drugs, mainly syabu and ecstasy pills,” he told reporters at the scene.

Mohd Zani said a police bomb disposal unit removed the bombs to an open area nearby and detonated them.

A resident who wished to be identified only as Roslan said his family was shocked when a neighbour informed him that their block had been cordoned off by the police and Fire and Rescue personnel.

He said evacuated instructed.

“Fearing for our safety, we rushed down to the ground floor,” he told reporters. - Bernama all the residents the building as
