Syabu man fined RM3,000
KOTA KINABALU: The Magistrate’s Court here yesterday fined a man RM3,000, in default, eight months’ jail on a joint charge of possessing 7.56 grams of syabu.
Nadjmi Mohd Sail, 31, pleaded guilty before magistrate Jessica Ombou Kakayun to a charge under Section 12 (2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries a maximum RM100,000 fine or a jail term of up to five years or both, upon conviction.
He admitted to possessing the drug at a futsal court at a parking area in Sembulan here on August 28, 2015.
In mitigation, counsel Luke Ressa Balang, who represented Nadjmi, prayed for a lenient sentence on the grounds that his remorseful client is a first-time offender and has four children aged between 11 and 10 months. Ijaz Ahmed Ahmed Yar pleaded guilty before magistrate Jessica Ombou Kakayun as charged under Section 90 of the Police Act 1967, which provides for a jail term of up to six months or a maximum fine of RM500 or both, upon conviction.
He was found to have behaved in a disorderly manner in front of a police counter at the Kota Kinabalu International Airport here on April 20.
In pleading for leniency, the remorseful Ijaz, who was unrepresented, told the court that he could not contact his family since he was detained and prayed for a lenient sentence.
