Man claims trial to possessing knuckle duster

KOTA KINABALU: A man claimed trial at the Magistrate’s Court here yesterday to possessing a knuckle duster in public places.

Samrizman Samrizal, who was brought before magistrate Jessica Ombou Kakayun, was charged under Section 7 (1) of the Corrosive, Explosive and Dangerous Weapons Act 1953, which provides for a jail term of up to 10 years upon conviction.

He was apprehende­d by police for allegedly carrying the weapon without a lawful purpose along a pavement at Jalan Coastal here at 8.30am on April 24.

Prosecutin­g officer Inspector Azaman Hamat applied for a RM5,000 bail while the unrepresen­ted Samrizman, who claimed the weapon belonged to his brother, prayed for a lower amount.

The court fixed May 11 for case management and released Samrizman on RM2,800 bail with two local sureties, pending disposal of the case.

DAP rep's sedition trial to resume on June 27

GEORGE TOWN: The trial of DAP assemblyma­n for Seri Delima, R.S.N Rayer who allegedly used seditious words in the Penang state legislativ­e assembly two years ago, will be resumed on June 27 after three prosecutio­n witnesses testified yesterday.

The three prosecutio­n witnesses who testified in the Sessions Court on the first day of the trial were the assembly stenograph­er Rusli Kamaruddin, Teluk Bahang Umno Youth chief Mohd Ridzuad Mohd Azuddin and investigat­ing officer Inspector Simon Kent.

Another prosecutio­n witness who was supposed to testify yesterday was the state assembly Speaker Datuk Law Choo Kiang who could not attend as he was overseas.

Rayer, a lawyer has pleaded not guilty to the charge of uttering allegedly seditious words during a debate at the Penang State Assembly, at 9.30 am on May 20, 2014.

The prosecutio­n was conducted by deputy public prosecutor Lim Cheah Yit, while Rayer was represente­d by counsel Gobind Singh Deo. - Bernama
