Beyoncé father says has ‘never hit’ daughter with his hand
BEYONCÉ father has denied he has hit her.
The 34-year-old singer set tongues wagging when she hinted on her new album “Lemonade” that her dad Mathew Knowles had struck her with his hand when she was younger, but he’s adamant the lyrics aren’t reference to him.
He explained: “I can say I have never in my life hit my daughter. So she has never been a slave to the back of my hand because I didn’t believe in that.”
The 64-year-old talent manager — who looked after the brunette beauty’s career from when she was in Destiny’s Child up until they split professionally in 2011 — also remained tightlipped on speculation her new hour-long visual album is based on her rumoured relationship problems with Jay Z.
Speaking on Mark Thompson’s Sirius XM show ‘Make It Plain’ on Monday, he said: “There’s no way we can get into the mind of Beyoncé. Only Beyoncé can answer specifically whom she was talking to . ... I would rather not get into speculation. M y answer is I don’t know.” Meanwhile, “Lemonade” is expected to debut at number one on the US chart despite being available only for download and through one streaming service, Billboard said on Wednesday. The music industry journal, which publishes the weekly album charts on Sundays, said that Beyonce’s “Lemonade” was likely to sell more than 450,000 copies before factoring in streaming in the week through Thursday. — BANG Showbiz/AFP
