Invest in biogas trapping facilities, palm oil millers told

-

SANDAKAN: Palm oil millers are encouraged to install biogas trapping facilities to meet the government’s directive for all palm oil mills in the country to be installed with such facilities by 2020.

The methane which is captured is actually a greenhouse gas with huge renewable energy potential.

Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Raymond Tan Shu Kiah said it was outlined under the National Key Economic Areas: Entry Point Project 5 (developing biogas facilities at palm oil mills).

“However, in the process of installingthefacility, stepsshould be taken by millers, especially in Sabah, to ensure their plant is safe for workers,” he said when officiating a palm oil industry dialogue here yesterday.

Tan, who is also Industrial Development Minister, said the plants must be built and operated in accordance to international standards and regulations.

The one-day dialogue, attended by 183 participants, was organised by the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health and the Department of Occupational Safety and Health. — Bernama
