Woman denies cheating another woman

KOTA KINABALU: A shop assistant claimed trial at the Magistrate’s Court here yesterday to a charge of cheating a woman over the purchase of a laptop via a website.

Hashimah Jineh, 21, who appeared before magistrate Jessica Ombou Kakayun, was alleged to have deceived the 27-year-old victim by saying that she could help the victim to manage the purchase of the item online and induced the victim to bank in RM180 to the accused.

The alleged offence was committed at an auto teller machine at Metro Town at 10.02am on July 11, 2015.

Hashimah, who was represente­d by counsel Azhier Farhan Arisin, was charged under Section 420 of the Penal Code which carries a maximum jail term of 10 years and a fine or with whipping, upon conviction.

The court fixed October 4 this year for case management and released the accused on RM500 bail with two local sureties, pending disposal of the case. In an unrelated case, a 22-year-old fisherman was jailed for 14 days after he pleaded guilty to possessing two gas cylinders believed to be stolen items.

Nazry Basir was arrested for committing the offence at Taman Indah Permai in Menggatal on September 9. Magistrate Cindy Mc Juce Balitus convicted the accused on a charge under Section 22A (1) of the Minor Offences Ordinance which is punishable by a maximum fine of RM100 or a prison term of up to three months, upon conviction.

The facts of the case stated that the police had arrested the accused following a police report against him by the public, who saw the accused with the items, outside the complainan­t’s house.
