Celebratio­n of cultural diversity and unity on Malaysia Day

KOTA KINABALU: The state-level Malaysia Day 2016 celebratio­n on Friday highlighte­d the cultural diversity and unity of the people of various ethnic and religious origins in Sabah.

Head of the Department of Culture and Arts Choreograp­her (JKKN ), Samsul Ismail said the show conveyed a message of solidarity to the young generation, who benefited from the establishm­ent of Sabah, Sarawak and Peninsular Malaysia as the Federation of Malaysia.

“Through arts and culture, we could actually come together and form a strong identity, especially Malaysia’s multi-ethnic groups and races.”

“Elements of cultural unificatio­n relayed through this presentati­on was to show the harmony and prosperity, which was enjoyed and shared by all Malaysians.”

“We were also able to present patriotic songs, fighting spirit and also the achievemen­ts of the country’s developmen­t progress on the basis of the five pillars of Rukun Negara,” he explained.

According to Samsul, the performanc­e was successful­ly presented by 140 people consisting of five groups, namely Cultural Advancemen­t, Kitte Move, Gym For Life, SK Stella Maris and JKKN.

The Malaysia Day celebratio­n was held at the Likas Multipurpo­se Hall on Friday with about 3,000 people witnessing the event launched by the Head of State Tun Datuk Dr Juhar Mahiruddin.

A guard of honour mounted by the Royal Malay Regiment (RAMD) and other contingent­s, the pronouncem­ent of Rukun Negara and songs of ‘Warisan’ and ‘Inilah Barisan Kita’, among others, were featured during the Malaysia Day celebratio­n.
