Tuaran Closed Badminton Tournament Sept 24-26
TUARAN: The Tuaran Closed Badminton Tournament will take place at the Adventist Auditorium in Tamparuli near here from September 24-26.
Organised by the Tuaran District Badminton Association (PBDT), the tournament is aimed at unearthing new talents in Tuaran.
It is also an important platform to select shuttlers to represent the district to two major state badminton tournaments, said organising chairman Golubi Guntarek.
"Shuttlers who meet the criteria will represent Tuaran to the Sabah Closed Championship in Tawau from October 1416 and also to the Sabah Closed 2nd Junior Circuit and Invitational Tournament in Kota Maurdu from November 27-29," he said in a statement yesterday.
Twenty-eight categories will be contested in the Tuaran Closed namely for men's and women's singles and doubles, mixed doubles, men's veteran doubles (above 40 years old, above 50 years old, combined age 90, combined age 100), VIP men's doubles, under-9 boys' and girls' singles as well as singles and doubles events for under-11, under-13, under-15 and under-17.
Each category will offer prize money, certificates and medals.
"PBDT will also organise a special competition for men's doubles open, which is for interested participants from outside of Tuaran district," he added.
Golubi went on to say that the tournament would be ideal to test the progress of the participants following their training.
"On behalf of the president Janih Bangud and PBDT, I would like to invite enthusiasts to participate and watch the tournament," he said.
Matches will be played from 7pm to 11pm on September 24, 8am to 11pm on September 25 and 7pm to 11pm on September 26.
