DIA releases Harry Potterthemed album ‘Spell’

-

SEOUL: K-pop girl group DIA released their third album “Spell” on Monday. For the seven-track album, the band members draw concepts from J.K. Rowling’s “Harry Potter” series.

The seven-member group follows up their popular second album “Happy Ending” which was released by MBK Entertainment in June. The new album celebrates the first anniversary since their debut and the songs went available online Wednesday to mark the occasion.

The main track, “Mr. Potter,” has strong beats with a synthesizer sound and falls in the dance-pop genre.

The single is a milestone for the idol group as it marks their musical and group concept transformation from fresh and lively rhythms with girlish themes to a more powerful and mysterious image as witches.

“We wanted to show that DIA does not stick to one image and can appeal with various concepts,” said Hui Hyeon during a press conference at Blue Square Samsung Card Hall in Hannam, eastern Seoul, Monday. “One year has passed so quickly and to express our gratitude for our fans’ support, we decided to release a fan song called The Love. We recorded the album with fans and shot the music video with them.”

“The Love” is the fifth track and all seven members participated in writing the lyrics.

DIA debuted last year with their first album “Do It Amazing” on Sept. 14. However, the group barely received any recognition from K-pop fans until one of their members, Chaeyeon, rose to stardom on her own through her appearance on the idol survival program “Produce 101” after taking a break from the group.
