‘Brother’s Keeper 2’: Kristal Tin gets Best Actress buzz
HONG KONG: Kristal Tin’s performance in ‘Brother Keeper’s 2’, especially in Episode 14 which aired recently, has won netizens’ praise and, their endorsement for her to be this year’s TV Queen.
The 38-year-old actress, who won TVB’s Best Actress and Most Popular Female Character for her portrayal of Yiu Manying in 2013’s ‘Brother’s Keeper’, is getting the Best Actress buzz again for the sequel. So, will Kristal win the title of TV Queen again?
‘Brother’s Keeper 2’, which premiered on Aug 29, is sequel to 2013’s ‘Brother’s Keeper’, a drama about two long-lost brothers living against the changing times of colonial Hong Kong and Macau. The sequel takes place in present day, focusing on Edwin Siu’s Lo Waison and Kristal Tin’s Yiu Manying, and the struggles behind their successful bakery chain in Macau.
Plagued with average premiere ratings and even lower ratings on its second week of broadcast, it seemed unlikely that ‘Brother’s Keeper 2’ would get any mentions at the TVB Anniversary Awards this year.
But with the broadcast of Thursday’s episode, a winning opportunity may actually be coming their way.
In Episode 14, which aired on the day of the Mid-Autumn Festival, Man-ying hears from the news that her husband’s (Louis Yuen) flight had gone missing while on the way to Okinawa, where she is temporarily staying. Man-ying freaks out and breaks down, mumbling and crying to herself. After receiving the news that her father-in-law (Yu Chi-ming) had suffered a stroke from the shock, she rushes back to Macau to visit them, but gets brutally and tearfully slapped away by her mother-in-law (Angelina Lo), who blames her for her son’s disappearance.
