Appreciate services, sacrifices of armed forces — Hamisa

-

TAWAU: The services and sacrifices of soldiers who served in the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) cannot be equated with materialistic values by the people and the state.

Assistant Resource Development and Information Technology Minister Datuk Hamisa Samat said what can be done to appreciate the role and sacrifices of the armed forces are a form of appreciation by the government and the society.

Therefore, she said, the government and people should highly appreciate and give high value to any military personnel past and present as the country continues to have peace and harmony.

“Charisma and role have not only made ATM loved and respected but always in a state of preparedness to ensure the peace and welfare of the public,” she said during a visit to the Kalabakan Armed Forces Control Post yesterday in conjunction with Armed Forces Day and Malaysia Day.

Hamisa, who is also Tanjong Batu assemblywoman, said the duty of military personnel now no longer just focused on maintaining security at national borders or in the jungles.

“ATM today are everywhere and people recognize their work in a variety of ways. Responsibilities and their role are much appreciated especially their involvement in community missions during natural disasters such as floods, earthquakes and fires,” she said.

Hamisa called for a fairer society in appreciation of the services and sacrifices of soldiers and police.
