KDMM FC knocked out of FAM Cup on winning note

-

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah KDMM FC exited the FAM Cup competition with their heads held high.

The squad defied the odds to win 2-1 against MISC-MIFA in the second leg of the quarterfinal tie at USIM Mini Stadium in Negeri Sembilan yesterday.

It was not enough to send them through to the next round though.

KDMM FC went down 3-5 on aggregate having lost 1-4 in the first encounter in Keningau the previous week.

However, the team under head coach Andrew Majanggim deserved the praise for their spirited fighting display against the FAM Cup favourites.

KDMM FC in fact were on course for a superb fightback and they were just a single goal behind on aggregate after Zuraindey Jumai and Hardy Parsi gave them a 2-0 lead in the first half.

The FAM Cup debutants continued to aggressively attack but just could not find the back of the net.

Andrew said twice they were frustrated by MIFA goalkeeper in one-on-one situation. But when they do found a way past him, the goalposts denied them.

It proved costly as MIFA scored the only goal in the second half to all but confirm their semifinal spot.

For the record, KDMM FC made it into the quarter-finals after finishing fourth in the league competition where they were in Group B.

Despite the exit, it has been a successful debut for KDMM FC in the country’s third-tier football competition.

Meanwhile, the other quarterfinal second leg matches played last night were MOF FC against AirAsia AllStars FC, Perak PKNP FC versus Penang Sungai Ara FC and Felcra FC facing Malacca SAMB FC.

In the first leg, Airasia and Felcra won 1-0 while PKNP registered 3-0 win.
