A celebration of excellence at AeU 6th Convocation Ceremony
KUALA LUMPUR: Graduations from around the world, the ministers, several ambassadors and representatives from foreign embassies particularly from the 34 Asia Cooperation Dialogue (ACD) countries are jubilantly celebrating and gracing their presence at this prestigious Asia e University (AeU) event.
The 6th Convocation ceremony which is held at Putra World Trade Centre, Kuala Lumpur received good support from various parties and stakeholders including the public sector and strategic partners.
One of AeU’s distinguished guests is YB Dato’ Seri Idris bin Jusoh, Malaysia’s Minister of Higher Education.
A total of about 3,600graduands from Malaysia and around the worldreceive their scrolls from AeU.
The international graduands are from Bahrain, Bangladesh, India, Indonesia, Iraq, Maldives, Myanmar,Nigeria, Philippines,Saudi Arabia, Sri Lanka, Somalia and Vietnam.
One of the AeU’s PhD graduates who received her scroll in Doctor of Philosophy (Education) degree is Datuk Dr Mary Yap Kain Ching, Deputy Minister of Higher Education, Malaysia.
Datuk Dr Mary Yap attested, “Embarking on the PhD programme had always been my dream though I knew it would be a very tough academic journey. With great enthusiasm, I registered for the PhD programme and worked very well with Prof Dr Siow Heng Loke as my supervisor. Based on my learning experience, I can aptly say that AeU is a university that has it all that it takes to educate and bring students to the pinnacle of their academic success through elearning. It is well equipped with a Digital Library and the lecturers practise the “3 Cs – concern, commitment and continuity while guiding the students. I am deeply humbled and yet proud that I made it after all at the age of 65 and this is what lifelong learning is all about.”
One of the outstanding graduands of Aeu’s Prestigious Merit Awards of Excellence is Ivy Ngu Mei Ee, 30.
She is the recipientof the Chairman’s Awardwinner and isa science teacher from SMK, Sibu, Sarawak who graduated inMaster of Education(Science Education) She testifies, “The programme gave me a deeper understanding as viewed from my students’ perspective. The knowledge gained from my studiesinspire and motivate me to teach science more creatively and effectively.”
Another outstanding graduand is Tie Ting Huat, 34.
He is the recipient of theMahani Zainal Abidin Award who graduated in Master of Business Administration.
He says, “I took the biggest step to further acquire knowledge via MBA on a full time basis, specializing in Supply Chain Management) I am ecstatic for winning the Mahani Zainal Abidin Award and very thankful to AeU for granting the outstanding merit scholarship award during my course in AeU.
Today, I had the opportunity to embark on the field that I am most passionate about, serving from a Procurement division within the Supply Chain business unit for a German base company, Giesecke & Devrient.”
A third outstanding graduand is Cikgu Zubaidahbt. Zaini, 46. She is the recipient of the President’s Award winner and a teacher at Sekolah Kebangsaan Asyakirin Bintulu, Sarawak.
Graduated in Bachelor Of Education (Teaching Malay Language In Primary School) (Hons), Cikgu Zubaidah reminisces, “The facilities and learning resources provided by the AeU were excellent. Despite been a teacher for 25 years I enjoyed the learning experience as a student.I am thankful to the academic facilitators who were committed and guided me effectively to succeed.”
AeU’s President/ CEO, Prof Dato’ Dr Ansary Ahmed gave a welcome address.
“We are honoured to have such esteemed guests join us to celebrate an important milestone for our graduating students.. We are proud of their achievements and wish them all the very best of good fortune in their future careers.In tandem with AeU ‘s progress, the University is also expanding its eeducation presence.
To start with, the University has been selected by members of ACD during a high-level meeting in February 2016 to take the lead in the operationalisation of an Asian Credit Transfer System (ACTS) using the Asian MBA initiative as a case study.”
The system will enable students of ACD member countries to transfer their ACTS credits from one university to another so they are added up to contribute to an individual’s degree programmes.

Students can study fully online or with blended learning; a combination of online and face-to-face classes.
Assessment is flexible with a practical combination of 60 pct assignment and 40 pct examination – ensuring that its more practical rather than theory based.
Flexible APEL Entry Admission Paths
Besides the normal requirement entry, Accreditation of Prior Learning (APEL) is an alternative entry to those without the prerequisite qualifications. For example, besides the normal entry requirements of a having a minimum recognised Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent to apply for Master’s programmes, applicants can now gain admissions through an alternative route via APEL entry.
