A cel­e­bra­tion of ex­cel­lence at AeU 6th Con­vo­ca­tion Cer­e­mony


KUALA LUMPUR: Grad­u­a­tions from around the world, the min­is­ters, sev­eral am­bas­sadors and rep­re­sen­ta­tives from for­eign em­bassies par­tic­u­larly from the 34 Asia Co­op­er­a­tion Dia­logue (ACD) coun­tries are ju­bi­lantly cel­e­brat­ing and grac­ing their pres­ence at this pres­ti­gious Asia e Univer­sity (AeU) event.

The 6th Con­vo­ca­tion cer­e­mony which is held at Pu­tra World Trade Cen­tre, Kuala Lumpur re­ceived good sup­port from var­i­ous par­ties and stake­hold­ers in­clud­ing the pub­lic sec­tor and strate­gic part­ners.

One of AeU’s distin­guished guests is YB Dato’ Seri Idris bin Ju­soh, Malaysia’s Min­is­ter of Higher Ed­u­ca­tion.

A to­tal of about 3,600grad­uands from Malaysia and around the worl­dreceive their scrolls from AeU.

The in­ter­na­tional grad­uands are from Bahrain, Bangladesh, In­dia, In­done­sia, Iraq, Mal­dives, Myan­mar,Nige­ria, Philip­pines,Saudi Ara­bia, Sri Lanka, So­ma­lia and Viet­nam.

One of the AeU’s PhD grad­u­ates who re­ceived her scroll in Doc­tor of Phi­los­o­phy (Ed­u­ca­tion) de­gree is Datuk Dr Mary Yap Kain Ching, Deputy Min­is­ter of Higher Ed­u­ca­tion, Malaysia.

Datuk Dr Mary Yap at­tested, “Em­bark­ing on the PhD pro­gramme had al­ways been my dream though I knew it would be a very tough aca­demic jour­ney. With great en­thu­si­asm, I reg­is­tered for the PhD pro­gramme and worked very well with Prof Dr Siow Heng Loke as my su­per­vi­sor. Based on my learn­ing ex­pe­ri­ence, I can aptly say that AeU is a univer­sity that has it all that it takes to ed­u­cate and bring stu­dents to the pin­na­cle of their aca­demic suc­cess through elearn­ing. It is well equipped with a Dig­i­tal Li­brary and the lec­tur­ers prac­tise the “3 Cs – con­cern, com­mit­ment and con­ti­nu­ity while guiding the stu­dents. I am deeply hum­bled and yet proud that I made it after all at the age of 65 and this is what life­long learn­ing is all about.”

One of the out­stand­ing grad­uands of Aeu’s Pres­ti­gious Merit Awards of Ex­cel­lence is Ivy Ngu Mei Ee, 30.

She is the re­cip­i­entof the Chair­man’s Award­win­ner and isa sci­ence teacher from SMK, Sibu, Sarawak who grad­u­ated in­Master of Ed­u­ca­tion(Sci­ence Ed­u­ca­tion) She tes­ti­fies, “The pro­gramme gave me a deeper un­der­stand­ing as viewed from my stu­dents’ per­spec­tive. The knowl­edge gained from my stud­iesin­spire and mo­ti­vate me to teach sci­ence more cre­atively and ef­fec­tively.”

An­other out­stand­ing grad­uand is Tie Ting Huat, 34.

He is the re­cip­i­ent of theMa­hani Zainal Abidin Award who grad­u­ated in Mas­ter of Busi­ness Ad­min­is­tra­tion.

He says, “I took the big­gest step to fur­ther ac­quire knowl­edge via MBA on a full time ba­sis, spe­cial­iz­ing in Sup­ply Chain Man­age­ment) I am ec­static for win­ning the Ma­hani Zainal Abidin Award and very thank­ful to AeU for grant­ing the out­stand­ing merit schol­ar­ship award dur­ing my course in AeU.

To­day, I had the op­por­tu­nity to em­bark on the field that I am most pas­sion­ate about, serv­ing from a Pro­cure­ment di­vi­sion within the Sup­ply Chain busi­ness unit for a Ger­man base com­pany, Giesecke & Devri­ent.”

A third out­stand­ing grad­uand is Cikgu Zubaidahbt. Zaini, 46. She is the re­cip­i­ent of the Pres­i­dent’s Award win­ner and a teacher at Seko­lah Ke­bangsaan Asyakirin Bin­tulu, Sarawak.

Grad­u­ated in Bach­e­lor Of Ed­u­ca­tion (Teach­ing Malay Lan­guage In Pri­mary School) (Hons), Cikgu Zubaidah rem­i­nisces, “The fa­cil­i­ties and learn­ing re­sources pro­vided by the AeU were ex­cel­lent. De­spite been a teacher for 25 years I en­joyed the learn­ing ex­pe­ri­ence as a stu­dent.I am thank­ful to the aca­demic fa­cil­i­ta­tors who were committed and guided me ef­fec­tively to suc­ceed.”

AeU’s Pres­i­dent/ CEO, Prof Dato’ Dr An­sary Ahmed gave a wel­come ad­dress.

“We are hon­oured to have such es­teemed guests join us to cel­e­brate an im­por­tant mile­stone for our grad­u­at­ing stu­dents.. We are proud of their achieve­ments and wish them all the very best of good for­tune in their fu­ture ca­reers.In tan­dem with AeU ‘s progress, the Univer­sity is also ex­pand­ing its ee­d­u­ca­tion pres­ence.

To start with, the Univer­sity has been se­lected by mem­bers of ACD dur­ing a high-level meet­ing in Fe­bru­ary 2016 to take the lead in the op­er­a­tional­i­sa­tion of an Asian Credit Trans­fer Sys­tem (ACTS) us­ing the Asian MBA ini­tia­tive as a case study.”

The sys­tem will en­able stu­dents of ACD mem­ber coun­tries to trans­fer their ACTS cred­its from one univer­sity to an­other so they are added up to con­trib­ute to an in­di­vid­ual’s de­gree pro­grammes.

The Univer­sity is cur­rently col­lab­o­rat­ing with other mem­ber univer­si­ties to op­er­a­tionalise the plan.” Fast Facts on AeU AeU is a unique col­lab­o­ra­tive multi­na­tional univer­sity es­tab­lished in 2007 un­der the aus­pices of 34 Asia Co­op­er­a­tion Dia­logue (ACD). Through our shared col­lec­tive ex­per­tise and strate­gic link­ages with our nu­mer­ous ed­u­ca­tional part­ners, AeU de­liv­ers pro­grammes that are im­bued with the goals of flex­i­bil­ity, qual­ity and rel­e­vance to pro­vide a truly per­son­al­ized and life­long learn­ing for the masses.

AeU has spread its wings glob­ally and now has an en­rol­ment of around30,000 stu­dents range in age from 18 to 84, from 70 coun­tries, and has grad­u­ated over 11,000grad­u­ates.

AeU cur­rently has the high­est Doc­toral stu­dent pop­u­la­tion from a di­verse and in­ter­na­tional com­mu­nity of over 1,000 fel­low stu­dents from 46 coun­tries do­ing var­i­ous post­grad­u­ate re­search pro­grammes.

In just nine years, AeU has es­tab­lished a re­mark­able rep­u­ta­tion as the ac­claimed in­sti­tu­tion of choice which pro­vides knowl­edge ac­qui­si­tion for hu­man cap­i­tal needs in the re­gion through e-ed­u­ca­tion.

Pro­grammes Of­fered in Schools/ Fac­ul­ties of AeU

Asia e Univer­sity strongly be­lieves in pro­vid­ing ex­cel­lence, flex­i­ble and af­ford­able learn­ing ex­pe­ri­ence for the so­ci­ety from all walks of life. The Univer­sity also of­fers more than two hun­dred (200) ex­ec­u­tive ed­u­ca­tion pro­grammes through the School of Pro­fes­sional & Ex­ec­u­tive Ed­u­ca­tion and School of Tech­ni­cal Ed­u­ca­tion, En­gi­neer­ing & Reskilling.

AeU can de­liver sim­i­lar pro­grammes in other coun­tries con­cur­rently through col­lab­o­ra­tion with in­sti­tu­tional part­ners by lever­ag­ing on tech­nolo­gies to en­hance teach­ing and learn­ing and also to fa­cil­i­tate aca­demic and ad­min­is­tra­tive sup­port for qual­ity as­sur­ance.

Stu­dents can study fully on­line or with blended learn­ing; a com­bi­na­tion of on­line and face-to-face classes.

As­sess­ment is flex­i­ble with a prac­ti­cal com­bi­na­tion of 60 pct as­sign­ment and 40 pct ex­am­i­na­tion – en­sur­ing that its more prac­ti­cal rather than the­ory based.

Flex­i­ble APEL En­try Ad­mis­sion Paths

Be­sides the nor­mal re­quire­ment en­try, Ac­cred­i­ta­tion of Prior Learn­ing (APEL) is an al­ter­na­tive en­try to those with­out the pre­req­ui­site qual­i­fi­ca­tions. For ex­am­ple, be­sides the nor­mal en­try re­quire­ments of a hav­ing a min­i­mum recog­nised Bach­e­lor’s De­gree or equiv­a­lent to ap­ply for Mas­ter’s pro­grammes, ap­pli­cants can now gain ad­mis­sions through an al­ter­na­tive route via APEL en­try.
