Judge visits swamp where drum containing DPP’s body found

KUALA LUMPUR: Kuala Lumpur High Court judge Datuk Azman Abdullah, who is presiding the murder trial of deputy public prosecutor Datuk Anthony Kevin Morais, yesterday visited a swamp area in Subang Jaya, Selangor, where the drum containing the victim’s body was disposed of.

The swamp, located adjacent to Tan Sri Jeffrey Cheah School Complex, was where the cemented drum containing Kevin Morais’ body, which was stuffed in a gunny sack, was found.

Azman, together with the prosecutio­n team led by deputy public prosecutor Saiful Edris Zainuddin, the defence team and the seven accused in the case, were at the swampy area for about 20 minutes.

They had earlier gathered at the Subang Jaya district police headquarte­rs and left the place at about 10 am to the swamp, about 10 kilometres away.

They also went to two other locations -- a workshop at Desa Mentari, Petaling Jaya, where Kevin Morais’ body and car were kept, and a food shop at Jalan USJ 1/6C, which is said to be operated by one of the accused.

Meanwhile, Saiful Edris, when met by reporters, said the visit was organised to provide a better understand­ing on the case to the parties involved.

Six men - G. Gunasekara­n, 48, R.Dinishwara­n, 24, A.K. Thinesh Kumar, 23, M.Vishwanath, 26, Nimalan, 23, and Ravi Chandaran, 45, pleaded not guilty to a charge of murdering Kevin Morais between 7 am and 8 pm between Jalan Dutamas Raya Sentul and No.1 Jalan USJ1/6D, Subang Jaya, on Sept 4, 2015.

Another, Col Dr R. Kunaseegar­an, 53, the first accused, had pleaded not guilty to a charge of abetting the six men in the murder of Kevin Morais on the same day and at the same time and place. - Bernama
