MIRI: Miri Narcotics unit seized cannabis slabs weighing over two kilos and other types of drugs worth a total of RM103,000 in street value following the arrest of a local man, aged 24, on Thursday afternoon.

The team also confiscated cash amounting to RM9,000 from the suspect.

The drugs were discovered and seized at two separate locations - MDL Garden, and a house at Tanjong Lobang.

This was disclosed by the city police chief, ACP Khoo Leng Huat during a press conference held at Miri police headquarters on Friday morning.

Also present during the press conference were his deputy Supt Stanley Jonathan Ringgit and Miri Narcotics police chief, ASP Muhd Hurriyatul Fikri Sairin Karno.

Khoo revealed that Brunei Darusalam narcotics police team contributed to the arrest.

Acting on a tip-off, Miri Narcotics Police team apprehended a man in front of a house at MDL Garden on Thursday (Nov 17).

“During the 1.15pm raid (in the first location), the team searched the suspect’s vehicle and found 20 aluminium foils containing what could be Erimin 5 pills hidden inside a sling bag as well as two slabs weighing 1.035 kg suspected to be dried cannabis,” Khoo said.

The suspect, who is running a car wash in the city, led the police narcotics team to a second location in a house at Tanjong Lobang where they found another two slabs of cannabis, 90 aluminium foils of suspected Erimin 5 pills, Syabu (8g), Ketamine (25.4g), 560 pills believed to be Ecstasy and a digital weighing machine. “Preliminary investigations indicated that these drugs were transported to Sarawak from West Malaysia (Kuala Lumpur) with probes being done on how the drugs were transported into Miri,” said Khoo.

He said the drugs were meant for distribution to a neighbouring country (most likely Brunei Darussalam).

The suspect had been operating for six to eight months.

The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 which provides for a mandatory death penalty upon conviction.

“The suspect is being detained by police for questioning,” added Khoo.
