JKKKs urged to counter criticisms against govt

KOTA MARUDU: The Village Developmen­t and Security Committees (JKKKs) play an important role as the government change agents at the grassroots level, said Energy, Green Technology and Water Minister Datuk Seri Dr Maximus Ongkili.

He said JKKK's roles are not restricted to be the eyes and ears of the government but must also play a part in responding to negative criticisms and baseless accusation­s hurled by the irresponsi­nle opposition against the Barisan Nasional (BN) government.

“JKKKs should know how to reject the propaganda of the opposition who has nothing to do but to criticize the government,” he said referring to the opposition parties.

He advised the JKKKs to not take rumuors for granted, particular­ly those thrown by the opposition leaders and JKKKs should always be alert on current developmen­ts that are taking place in their respective villages.

“If there's a problem or issues that JKKKs can't handle, they should go to the district leaders directly,” Ongkili added.

In delivering his opening speech, he also reminded the JKKKs to continue developing their leadership and management skills.

Ongkili also reminded the JKKKs to practise teamwork at the highest level in bringing positive developmen­t into their communitie­s.

Neverthele­ss, the JKKKs must continue to work hard in maintainin­g the social harmony within the community, he said to those were present at the JKKK Leadership Seminar held at Kota Marudu Temple Hall yesterday.

The seminar which was officiated by the Kota Marudu member of parliament yesterday, was attended by JKKK chairmen from Tandek and Matunggong.

Also present was Kota Marudu District Officer Arnold Joibi.
