KOTA KINABALU: Renowned Malaysian singer, Zhuang Xue Zhong, will be releasing his Chinese New Year (CNY) album after a 14-year hiatus.

The latest album will feature 14 songs, including two of Zhuang’s own creation and 12 classic Chinese New Year titles.

His new CD and DVD are being retailed at RM20 each via Facebook, website and on-thespot sales counter.

“We expect to sell more than 4,000 copies of the album by January 2017,” Zhuang said during a lunch event hosted by SabahLabuan Motion Picture Traders and Entertainment Association (Slamptea) president Peter Chow here yesterday.

Zhuang has been in the music industry for around 36 years. Between 1981 and 1986, Zhuang has won 76 singing competitions and earned the title of ‘Championship King of Singing’.

Zhuang had just arrived in Kota Kinabalu for a special performance at the grand final of the Star Search 999 Singing Competition organized by Slamptea at Hakka Hall yesterday. Zhuang said he would be performing six to seven songs at the singing competition.

“I wish to thank Peter for giving me the opportunity to perform. He was also the first to place an order for 1,000 copies of my latest Chinese New Year album to be distributed at the event,” he said.

Zhuang was in Kota Kinabalu about six years ago to star in singer Crystal Liew’s music video filmed at the foot of Mount Kinabalu. The album was produced by Zhuang.

Also present at the event were Tee Kok Leong, who is one of the judges of the competition, and Zhuang’s spouse, Imei Lai.
