Pledge on 53 principles not just ‘hot air’ — CM

KUCHING: The 53 principles and actions announced by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem before and during the last state election were not just empty promises but sincere efforts by the Barisan Nasional (BN) government to safeguard the interest of the people as well as to lighten the burden of the people.

Adenan said he was pleased to inform that all these principles and actions had already been implemented except for several items under the devolution of power and Petronas commitment as he had explained earlier that were still at various levels of negotiation with the federal government and Petronas.

“It is obvious that the people have benefited from the various initiatives that are being implemented,” he said during his winding up speech at the State Legislative Assembly sitting yesterday.

Adenan, who led the state BN to win a landslide victory by winning 72 out of 82 seats in the May 7 state election, said in terms of popular votes, there was an increased support for BN from 55.4 per cent in the 10th State Election to 62.2 per cent in the 11th State Election.

“In contrast, the popular votes for the opposition (PKR and DAP) have decreased from 37.4 per cent in the 10th State Election to 29 per cent in the 11th State Election.”

He said the people had made their choice and the BN government, being a caring and responsible government was duty bound to deliver all the promises made in the last election.

“We are committed to discharge our responsibilities to plan for the posterity of Sarawak and to look after the wellbeing of the people.
