S’wakians to keep deposit with BN ‘bank’ – Masing
SELANGAU: Sarawakians will continue to keep their fixed deposit with the Barisan Nasional (BN) “bank” because of the high returns they are receiving.
Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Dr James Masing said, the returns on investment were somehow late, but still there was no reason for them to move their fixed deposit to other “banks”.
“There are many banks in Malaysia and if the returns are not generous, we can always move to somewhere else. (But) at the moment there’s no reason to move the fixed deposit,” he told reporters after officiating at Pesta Selangau here yesterday.
He was metaphorically speaking of the continuous support towards the BN government which had benefited the people in Sarawak.
Masing, who is also Party Rakyat Sarawak president and Baleh assemblyman, said the people in other places in the state might not feel it but the people in Kapit felt that they were getting high returns from their support to the BN.
He said, after 53 years of independence within Malaysia, there was no road connecting Kapit to the rest of Sarawak and the remote town in the upper reaches of the Sungai Rajang became an island within the island of Borneo.
“When Datuk Seri Najib Razak took over as the prime minister, the first thing that he did was to connect Kapit with the rest of Sarawak. That to me is a very good return,” he said.
He said, within the next three years, Kapit would be accessible from Sibu via the Sibu-Kapit road and Baleh would be connected with Kapit via the ongoing 123km Kapit-Baleh road construction project.
Masing was also confident that voters in Sarawak would continue to choose the BN in the 14th general election, which he anticipated would be held within the first half of next year.
He hoped that the strong support to the BN would be reciprocated with more development that the people are aspiring for. — Bernama
