Football teams invited for Datuk Francis Goh Cup

-

KOTA KINABALU: Clubs and teams in the district are invited to join the Datuk Francis Goh Cup N25 Kepayan Football Tournament scheduled to begin next year, organised by Barisan Nasional Penampang and Sabah FA Penampang.

Goh who is also MCA Penampang chief said the tournament is a continuation of the MCA Unity Cup tournament that was held before this.

However, he said this time the competition will be more challenging as there are two categories namely Open and Senior. Entries are open to players from the Kepayan state constituency only.

Entries are limited to 16 teams to ensure the tournament schedule runs smoothly.

“If possible we want the tournament to conclude within three months,” Goh told a press conference in Penampang yesterday.

He hoped each village in the constituency could send their team because the tournament is aimed at forging closer rapport among residents in the area.

At the same time, the tournament is also a platform to help Safa Penampang to identify talents for the team at upcoming editions of the Musa Cup InterDistrict annual tournament.

Attractive cash prizes will be up for grabs including RM5,000 for the champion, RM3,000 for the runner-up and RM1,000 for the losing semi-finalist teams. There is also a RM500 prize for the quarter-finalists.

Closing date for entries is December 30.

Towards this end, Goh said they would invite other teams from the Fire and Rescue Department, Police and District Council if the number of team entires fail to reach the targeted figure.

The competition is scheduled to begin on January 15.
