Farmers’ Marketing Complex in KK
TENOM: Sabah will have a Farmers' Marketing Complex that will be built near Kota Kinabalu.
Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (Fama) chairman Tan Sri Haji Badruddin Amiruldin said the complex would almost be the same as the Farmers' Market in Satok, Kuching.
He said construction of this complex would be undertaken this year after negotiations with the state government to identify a strategic location.
“This complex will showcase Sabah's indigenous cultures apart from becoming a collection centre for agricultural products from all over the state. It will also attract foreign and domestic tourists to the complex,” he told reporters after witnessing the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Fama and 16 entrepreneurs from Tenom and Keningau, at Datuk Seri Panglima Antenom Hall here, yesterday.
He also said Fama, in strengthening the agriculture sector in the state, would also build local fruit tamus in every district, apart from creating mini collection centres for agricultural produce in the interior.
“The collection centre for agriculture produce here is expected to be completed in May,” he said.
Earlier, Badruddin said Fama had set the price of various types of bananas at 80 sen per kg, effective from yesterday.
He said this effort was to help the people throughout the country to enhance their income.
“Fama will be a consistent and persistent buyer of agricultural produce, particularly in this district.
“Fama will not take advantage of the farmers and at the same time will not want the farmers to lose through price manipulation,” he said.
Also present were Tenom member of parliament Datuk Raime Unggi, Kemabong assemblyman Datuk Rubin Balang, Fama director-general Dato Ahmad Ishak and District Officer Madiyem Layapan.
