Club to organise Borneo 4x4 Show and Land Rover Jamboree this year
SANDAKAN: Sabah Land Rover Club (SLRC) life member, Datuk Ir James Wong, received a collar badge and a shirt from SLRC president Datuk Henry Hing following his appointment as the club’s advisor for the East Coast.
James, who is also Sandakan Municipal Council president, is the fourth SLRC advisor. The others were Sabah Parks chairman Datuk Seri Tengku Zainal Adlin Tengku Mahamood, Kota Kinabalu City Mayor Datuk Yeo Boon Hai and Sabah Tourism Board general manager Gordon Yapp.
Henry presented the advisor’s specially ordered and personally customised Columbia Expedition shirt and a collar badge to James in recognition and to officially honour his appointment as SLRC’s advisor for East Coast during the recent SLRC’s activities in Sandakan.
“We will be organising two major events later this year – The Borneo 4x4 and Outdoor Show in Kota Kinabalu and the Sabah Land Rover Jamboree in Keningau. Both are listed in this year’s Sabah Tourism calendar,” Henry said.
SLRC, which has 153 members, was officially launched on November 12, 2016 with the following as its main objectives – to build and promote friendship among Land Rover owners and enthusiasts, to promote friendship and cultural exchange with other Land Rovers Clubs, to organize 4x4 events and promote sustainable adventure tourism for the state of Sabah, to promote and support activities that preserve and protect the natural environment and community service and to organize 4x4 orientation, demonstration and handling skills training for members, he added.
According to Henry, Land Rover has played a major role in the reconstruction of Sabah after World War Two.
“The first of its kind arrived with the Engineering Corps of the British Commonwealth in 1948 and thus began our long standing association with the Land Rover series and the reconstruction of Borneo,” he said.
For over 60 years, the Land Rover Series has remained at the forefront of adventure, expeditions and discovery, Henry said.
