KUALA PENYU: Civil servants and those serving with the local authorities are reminded to give high performance in their work and possess integrity in their work culture in order to assist in the economic development of the country and to address issues raised by the local community.

Kuala Penyu assemblyman Limus Jury said any policies and development programs of the government will not achieve the goal if civil servants do not practise a positive work culture.

“Civil servants, particularly those serving with the local authorities, need to possess integrity in executing their duties and responsibilities; they must have commitment to deal with issues raised by the local community, especially in terms of cleanliness and security,” he said in his speech during the swearing-in ceremony of district councillors for the 2017/2018 session here yesterday.

Eighteen district councillors were sworn in before the District Council chairman and District Officer, Abdul Rahim Yakub, and witnessed by the District Council executive officer, Mohd Fadzlee Abdullah, Menumbok assistant district officer, Hussin Narion, and heads of state and Federal government department.

Limus said in this era of information technology development, every day there will be people presenting the problems they face, particularly in the rating areas that require the services of the district council.

“The local authorities must be alert and take immediate action on any complaints raised so that it will not become viral on the social media as that would affect the image of the government.

“Efficient service of high integrity would certainly be a catalyst to people’s confidence in the government and should always be practised to avoid negative repercussions,” he said.

Accordingly, Limus called on the appointed councillors to work together with the government to ensure prosperity for the people.

Earlier, Abdul Rahim, in his speech, reminded the councillors to work as a team to overcome challenges faced by local authorities, since the rating areas have now been extended to the villages thereby making the roles and responsibilities of the councillors more daunting.

The 18 district councillors sworn in were Sebastian Dirih Anjim, Datuk Kimjus Duim, Awang Aslee Lakat, Pg Haji Jaafar Pg Osman, Mohd Kajih Mijih, Hajah Dayang Toziah Haji Mohiddin, Raimah @ Rahimah Abbas, Fredoline Penggo, Dr. Sining Unchi, John Genchit, Zefrinus Wong @ Jephrin, Alexius Jalani, Teo Tuan Joo, Francis Lasius Kojiun, Ismail Musreh, Rahman Ali, Nelson W.
