JKSM signs Corruption Free Pledge
PUTRAJAYA: The Department of Syariah Judiciary (JKSM) yesterday signed a Corruption Free Pledge (CFP), an initiative to make JKSM a noble and respectable institution among Muslim countries.
Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Chief Commissioner Datuk Dzulkifli Ahmad said the move was timely as the syariah judiciary institution was undergoing complex challenges and has to be seen as clean and free from corruption and abuse of power.
He said any negative perception would taint the image of the institution and its employees as well as the sanctity of Islam.
“We need to portray the Malaysian Islamic Judiciary which is based on the principles of justice of Islam as efficient, transparent and clean,” he said at the CFP signing ceremony between JKSM and MACC here, yesterday.
The historic event saw JKSM becoming the first judiciary body in the country to heed the call of MACC and it was witnessed by JKSM director-general who is also Syariah Chief Justice, Tan Sri Dr Ibrahim Lembut.
Dzulkifli said the task of eradicating corruption and abuse of power should not solely rest on the shoulders of MACC as JKSM employees should also defend the integrity of the syariah judiciary from social ills.
Meanwhile, Ibrahim said apart from building a good image through integrity practices, the CFP initiative would also raise client confidence on the services provided by JKSM.
The move would ensure JKSM employees, especially syariah officers and those involved in managing cases, conduct their duties honestly and not to use their positions for their own benefits.
“I am confident there is no corruption in this institution and as such I invited MACC to come and cooperate, a move feared by other public departments and institutions,” he said. - Bernama
