Shot businesswo­man not involved in crime

GEORGE TOWN: The remains of the businesswo­man who was shot dead while driving in Taman Pekaka 1, Glugor, here on Tuesday, has been transferre­d to the Batu Gantung Hokkien Funeral Home here to enable those wanting to pay their last respect to the deceased.

The post-mortem on 49-year-old Ruby Lee Poh Ai at the Penang Hospital Forensic Unit was completed at 3 pm before the body was claimed by the family and taken to the funeral home.

Her husband, Saik Kum Guan, 50-an, when met at their house in Tanjung Bungah earlier, said he was deeply saddened by the tragic fate that had befallen his wife, describing it as a black tragedy.

“I cannot talk much about this as I have to go to the Timur Laut District Police headquarte­rs to give my statements,” he said.

A family member, who insisted anonymity, said Ruby’s remains would be placed at the funeral home for five days to also enable funeral prayers and religious rituals be carried out.

The man said the victim’s daughter, who is pursuing studies in England, was now on her way back to Malaysia.

“Ruby has a son and a daughter. His son is staying with her, and her daughter, who is studying in England, is expect to arrived here later tonight for the funeral,” he said.

He said the family and relatives were still shocked with the tragic incident and hoped that the police could carry out detailed investigat­ions into the case and arrest those involved as soon as possible.

In the 5.45pm incident, the victim was driving her BMW car alone when she was approached by two men riding a motorcycle who then fired more than 10 shotsat her.

The victim is identified as a businesswo­man in logistics shipping and believed to have been shot from the driver side with six shots hitting her chest.
