Ex-accused in Kevin’s murder denies giving false testimony

-

A former second accused in the murder of deputy public prosecutor Datuk Anthony Kevin Morais denied in the High Court here yesterday that he had given false evidence during hearing of the case.

G.Gunasekaran, 49, said his testimony in the court was the same as that in his statement which was recorded by the police on Sept 27, 2015, but there were some parts which were not in the statement.

“I did not change the story. It is the same,” he said when cross-examined by lawyer Datuk N.Sivananthan, representing the first accused, Colonel Dr R. Kunaseegaran.

Gunasekaran, who is an unemployed, is the 54th witness to give testify in the murder trial which entered its 41st day yesterday.

He was called to testify as a prosecution witness after changing his not guilty plea to guilty on a charge of concealing Kevin Morais’ body and disposing of the deceased’s car.

Questioned the reason he changed the testimony, Gunasekaran said that when he made the statement, his only thought then was to help the accused who was his friend.

However, he disagreed with Sivananthan that his testimony in court was merely to save himself and to be a hero for having agreed to testify for the prosecution.

Five men -- Dinishwaran, 25; Thinesh Kumar, 24; Vishwanath, 27; Nimalan, 24; and Ravi Chandaran, 46, had pleaded not guilty and claimed trial to a charge of murdering Kevin Morais along Jalan Dutamas Raya Sentul to No. 1 Jalan USJ1/6D, Subang Jaya, between 7am and 8pm on Sept 4, 2015.

Dr Kunaseegaran, 54, claimed trial to abetting them in committing the offence at the same place, date and time.

The hearing before judge Datuk Azman Abdullah continues today. - Bernama
