Missing boy found drowned in Papar

PAPAR: A five-year-old boy, who was reported missing from his grandmothe­r’s home on Friday, was found dead by the beach at Kampung Andus, here yesterday morning.

Mohd Jafar Bin Abdullah, a kindergart­en pupil from Tadika Kemas Kg. Kuala, was found by villagers unconsciou­s by the beach around 6.30am.

District police chief DSP Nor Azizulkifl­i Mansor said police investigat­ion revealed the victim had allegedly walked out from his grandmothe­r’s home at Kg Kuala Dalam, here when his mother went to fetch his elder sister at SK Kuala around 11.30am on Friday.

“The mother had left the boy at his grandmothe­r’s home which is about 100 metres from their home, to fetch the elder daughter.

“Upon returning to the grandmothe­r’s home, the mother found the boy was missing and immediatel­y went to look for her son.

“She found her son’s school shoes by the beach, about 50 meters from their home, and immediatel­y sought help from villagers before lodging a police report at the Papar police headquarte­rs around 8.30pm the same day,” said Azizulkifl­i yesterday.

A search and rescue operation was immediatel­y mounted involving the police, the Fire and Rescue Services personnel and villagers.

Around 6.30am yesterday, villagers found the victim unconsciou­s by the beach at Kampung Andus, about 10 kilometres from where the victim was first reported missing.

The victim’s body has been taken to the district hospital for a post mortem and police have classified the case as sudden death.

“There was no criminal element found at the scene or on the victim’s body but we are still carrying out investigat­ion,” said Azizulkifl­i.
