RM10 mln needed for Putatan tamu ground, central market — Yahya

-

PUTATAN: Upgrading and expanding the tamu ground and central market here will cost about RM10 million, Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Yahya Hussin said.

Speaking to reporters after Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak’s walkabout here yesterday, Yahya said there was also a need for the government to expedite the upgrading of SK Petagas and the construction of a new bridge near Cyber City.

“Just now when the Prime Minister was here, I took the opportunity to inform him that we need to upgrade the tamu ground and have the central market expanded. At the same time I asked to expedite our request on the upgrading of SK Petagas which was built in the 1950’s during the British era,” Yahya said.

The Petagas assemblyman said Najib gave a positive reply to his requests and also told Chief Minister Datuk Musa to share the cost for the tamu and market development project.

Once completed, the new facility would improve the socio-economy of the local residents and provide opportunities for the business community in Putatan, he said adding that the population in Putatan had increased by 100 per cent.

“And as tourism is picking up in Putatan, the district needs this kind of facelift,” Yahya said.

He expressed hope that the government could expedite the construction of the school and the bridge near Cyber City.

“They have allocated RM6 million for the bridge but it is not enough. With the bridge completed, it will open up a new route to Lok Kawi which will help ease the traffic congestion in the area,” he said.
