Sabahans must give mandate to BN — Salleh

-

KOTA BELUD: Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Seri Dr Salleh Said Keruak said the people of Sabah must give the mandate to Barisan Nasional (BN) who have succeeded in bringing stability and prosperity, at the 14th General Election (PRU14).

He said, as a responsible government, BN had careful planning and comprehensive development agenda for the benefit of the people in the state.

For example, he said the Pan Borneo Highway project from Tuaran to Kudat is expected to result in a major change especially in terms of economic opportunities, to simultaneously boost the well-being of the people.

“As such, BN is an apt choice in the struggle to look after the welfare of the people,” he said when opening a Kemas (Community Development Department) Workshop to Boost The Professionalism of Developers of Community for the Belud District yesteroday.

In this regard, Salleh said the people should not be easily influenced by the propaganda and accusations of the opposition who sowed numerous slanders and negative perceptions via the social media merely (in their attempt) to topple the existing government.

He also said the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) had conducted numerous campaigns including the ‘Click Wisely’ campaign to boost society’s awareness to more wisely use the internet, especially via the smart handphones.

According to Salleh, society, currently, received information from numerous sources but not all were true.

“Often, we are too busy using cellphones, to the extent we believe whatever information we receive. And we also viral the information received on WhatsApp to other groups when we ourselves are not confident of the information...we are easily influenced,” he said.

Salleh also urged public servants especially Kemas development officers to always carry out their responsibility entrusted upon them without questioning the policies of the government.

“The government is formed and administered by public servants and the ruling party. Politicians and public servants are a combination of the ruling party and we must support the ruling party.

“The ruling party is BN and we must defend the power not for ourselves but because we want to continue the development agenda for the prosperity of the people,” he said.

He also urged the people in the state not to be influenced by the political slogan “Sabah For Sabahans” bandied about by certain quarters to reap the people’s support.

Meanwhile, when opening the Parent-Teachers Association meeting of SMK Pekan II Kota Belud, later, Salleh urged students to master and boost skills in digital technology to enable them to compete and not be left behind in the world without borders.

He said the move was important to enable them to grab job opportunities in the future specifically those requiring expertise in the world of internet and digital. - Bernama
