Six theft, drug suspects arrested in Kudat
KUDAT: Police arrested six men, including a foreigner, for theft and possession of drugs last month and early this month.
District police chief Superintendent Douglas Nyeging Taong yesterday said that in the theft case, five men, including a foreigner, were arrested on suspicion of stealing salted fish belonging to their employer.
He said on Feb. 28 at about 5 pm, the complainant, a man who is also the manager of a company here, reviewed a CCTV footage of the company located at the jetty and saw some of his workers taking more than seven sacks of salted fish out of one of the fishing vessels belonging to the company.
He said based on the CCTV footage, the complainant managed to identify one of the suspects, who was his employee, and lodged a police report for further action.
“On the same day at about 6.20 pm, a police team from the Criminal Investigation Division Kudat district police headquarters, arrested five suspects at the jetty on suspicion of being involved in this case,” he said.
Douglas said initial investigations on the five suspects, who were also the complainant’s workers, showed that the workers had taken several sacks of fish from the boat and sold them.
He said all the suspects, aged 21 and 50, had been remanded for investigation under Section 380 of the Penal Code.
Meanwhile, in another case, the police arrested a local man aged 52, for drug possession.
Douglas said the police also seized drugs weighing about 5.11 grams worth RM1,600 from the suspect.
“On March 1 at about 5 pm at Matunggong Town here, a police team arrested the suspect, who was acting suspiciously.
“The suspect attempted to flee but was arrested and upon checking, two plastic packets containing crystal clear substance were found, suspected to be syabu, from the suspect’s trouser pocket.”
Douglas said the suspect claimed that the drugs belonged to him and the police arrested him and seized the drugs for further action.
He said the suspect was remanded for investigation under Section 39A (1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
