Be proactive in resolving people’s woes — rep

KAPAYAN: Kapayan assemblyman Dr Edwin Bosi has called on the government to be mindful of their responsibility to ensure the welfare of the people is taken care of.

As an opposition lawmaker, Dr Bosi said he is financially constrained but has nonetheless endeavoured to assist the people in his constituency whenever possible and wherever it matters most.

The DAP Sabah deputy chairman recently took time to inspect a minor road repair work carried out at Lorong Modili in Kobusak that was funded out of his own pocket. He was accompanied by DAP Penampang secretary Franky Lobinjang.

Dr Bosi extended his thanks to a resident there, Tiol Kodot, for raising the matter of the damaged road.

He disclosed that the annual allocation for Sabah assemblyman this year is RM2 million.

“I know the fund is channelled through the community development officer of Kapayan. With such available funds, the problems of clogged drains, public toilets, dilapidated ‘balairayas’ and basketball courts and potholes, just to name a few, should not arise in Kapayan,” he said.

Dr Bosi, however, said that the adequate funds provided by the government will come to naught if government agencies and departments do not show passion and commitment to their job.

“I believe these little problems faced by the people can be resolved if members of the civil service put their hearts and minds into their allotted tasks.

“In fact, in proactive departments and agencies, the problems in every constituency are resolved without even being detected and raised by the assemblymen/women,” he said.

Dr Bosi said he hoped that there is some transparency over the use of the assemblyman’s allocation.

As the State Assembly will be sitting from April 6-12 this year, I would certainly ask the government to explain how the money has been spent thus far, he said.
