Donggongon traffic woes require attention

-

IT is good that the government has finally addressed the problem of floods in Penampang and it is hoped that works will begin as soon as possible.

As I applaud the government for their approval for the ‘biggest’ allocation for four packages aimed at solving the flood problems, it is hoped that urgent action can be taken to solve the traffic congestion in the district.

It is very irritating to come out from my kampong, situated about a kilometer away from Donggongon Township, having to face difficulty entering the main road, in this case Jalan Datuk Peter Mojuntin in Kg. Hungab.

Traffic problem is more acute during the weekly tamu days at Donggongon but it is apparent that there is an urgent need to widen the Penampang-Tambunan road from the Siga Roundabout right up to the Community Hall at Kg. Pagansakan, Inobong since I believe the jam stretches up to Kg. Kolopis. The government, especially the Public Works Department, should also formulate a proper traffic flow in Donggongon Township since the bottleneck is there.

I read a clarification by the Penampang District Council that traffic issue at the township is under the jurisdiction of the Public Works Department but I remember there was a Traffic Committee in the Council charged with issues related to traffic.

It is rather surprising to read such clarification from the Council and this issue should therefore be clarified so that the people will not point their fingers at the Council every time.

Back to the issue of the allocation to solve the floods, the government ought to spell out the four packages they have approved to quash people’s suspicion that they are not being taken for a ride with the general elections expected anytime.
