Despite economic downturn, EduQuest Education Fair gets good turnout

-

KOTA KINABALU: More and more students are opting to pursue their tertiary studies in Kuala Lumpur or Sarawak rather than at overseas universities because of the prevailing economic downturn and fluctuating value of the ringgit.

That said, EduQuest Education Services Sdn Bhd director Datin Seri Tan Kit Sher pointed out that the decrease in students who study abroad was not significant as parents would still send their children to foreign universities if they could afford it.

On another note, she said business, law, medicine, accounting, finance, hospitality and tourism were the popular courses among students.

Tan said this when met at the EduQuest Education Fair at Pacific Sutera Harbour here yesterday.

She said the education fair had received good response from parents and students as the crowd turned up quite early.

“We expect that at least 500 people will show up at this event,” she said.

She added that EduQuest had decided to hold the education fair as the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) results would be out on March 16.

“The education fair enables the students to prepare themselves so that they would roughly know where they want to go after obtaining their SPM results.”
