Kedah top league table with 4-0 thrashing of Melaka United

KUALA LUMPUR: The 2016 Malaysia Cup champions, Kedah have strengthen­ed their grip on the Super League title after crushing Melaka United 4-0 at Darul Aman Stadium in Alor Setar Saturday.

The squad under coach Tan Cheng Hoe opened the score in the 33rd minute via Ken Ilso Larsen before Sandro Da Silva contribute­d the second goal in the 48th minute.

Sandro was once again on target in the 78th minute before Ken Ilso completed the four-goal rout in injury time in the second half.

With 18 points after eight matches, Kedah were ahead of Pahang in second place with 16 points followed by Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) in third place (14 points).

At Selayang Stadium, a classic clash between Selangor and Perak ended 1-0 in favour of Perak.

Perak’s solitary goal was scored via a penalty taken by Mohd Zaquan Adha Abd Razak in the 67th minute after the ball grazed the hand of Selangor player Ugochukwu Ukah.

The incident also resulted in the Italian-born player ordered out of the pitch for collecting his second yellow card in the match.

Also collecting three points were Felda United which beat Sarawak 2-0 on homeground.

In the match at Tun Abdul Razak Stadium in Maran, the goals of the hosts were netted by Lucas Matias Cano in the 53rd minute and Muhammad Hadin Azman (69th minute).

Meanwhile, Kelantan continued their winning trend after defeating T-Team 4-2 at Sultan Muhammad IV Stadium.

The Red Warriors’ Lebanese striker Mohamad Ghaddar scored a hat-trick in the sixth, 68th and 81st minute followed by a goal by Mohd Khairul Izuan Rosli in the 75th minute.

T-Team’s goals were contribute­d by Mohd Nor Hakim Hasan in the 46th minute and Farhod Tadijev (90th minute).

At Shah Alam Stadium, PKNS FC were held to a 1-1 draw with Penang.

Liberian striker Patrick Ronaldinho put PKNS ahead in the 30th minute before Nigel Dabinyaba equalised for Penang in the 53rd minute.

Penang remained at the bottom of the league with only two points after eight matches while PKNS jumped to the ninth spot with eight points. Bernama
