Duo charged with retaining stolen property

-

KOTA KINABALU: Two men were charged at the Magistrate's Court here on separate counts of retaining stolen property.

In the first case, Al Shofri Sulaiman was alleged to have been found with four branded watches in his possession and RM52,500 cash.

The cash and the watches, worth RM58,200, were supposedly stolen from a house in Taman Kopek, Inanam on December 7 last year around 3pm.

Al Shofri pleaded guilty to committing the offence framed under Section 411 of the Penal Code, which makes him liable to a maximum of five years behind bars or a fine, or both, upon conviction.

However, magistrate Cindy Mc Juce Balitus ordered the 25year-old to return to court on March 10 this year for facts and sentencing, due to incomplete exhibits.

In the second case, 31-year-old Alif Aliamat was charged with committing a similar offence.

When brought before the same court, he denied having several stolen bags in his possession when he was apprehended on February 1 this year, at WI Connect Mobile and Stationary along Jalan Bundusan.

Alif also faces the same punishment, if he is found guilty of the crime.

Due to the accused's guilty plea, the court adjourned to March 27 for case management.

Meanwhile, a man was fined RM2,000 for driving under the influence of alcohol.

The magistrate imposed the fine on Manjah Deris, who admitted to committing the offence along Jalan Bundusan on February 4 this year, around 1.40am.

Upon conviction, Manjah is liable to a fine of not more than RM6,000 and a maximum of 12 months in prison, under Section 45A (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

If he fails to pay the fine, Manjah will have to serve a default jail term of four months.
