Kota Kinabalu emerge champions in SSSB Under-12 Badminton C’ship

The Sabah Sports Board (SSB) Under12 Badminton Championsh­ip concluded over the weekend with three teams grabbing two golds each.

Kota Kinabalu, Putatan, and Keningau won two categories each with Sandakan and Tuaran lifting the two other titles at the Kota Kinabalu Sports Complex in Likas here.

However, Kota Kinabalu came out top with superior silver countfinis­hing with two gold, three silver and four bronze medals.

Putatan were second with two golds, one silver and one bronze followed by Keningau with two golds and two bronzes, Tuaran with one gold, two silvers and one bronze and Sandakan with one gold and one bronze.

Kota Kinabalu gold medals were won in the Girls’ Under-10 Doubles through Farizah Wirdari Fadzil and Saidatul Saadiah Muhammad and Boys’ Under-12 Doubles (Darrel Leonard/Kon Yi).

Putatan clinched top placings in the Boys’ Under-10 through Datu Anif Isaac Datu Asrah, who added a second from the doubles event with Muhd Nur Azhar Zunaide.

As for Keningau, the gold were from Clay Sherina Joinis in the Girls’ Under-12 Singles and later partnered Nur Adela Nadia Ali to the doubles title for the age group.

Muhd Arif Jun Ket in the Boys’ Under-12 Singles and Jola Lim Zi Yu in the Girl’s Under-10 Singles won gold for Tuaran and Sandakan respective­ly.

A total of eight gold, eight silver and 16 bronze medals were up for grabs, according to a statement from theAnthony C. Linggian, the Sports Board director andTechnic­al Chairman.

Meanwhile, the coaches, teachers, parents and players hoped that this tournament would be held annually as they considered it as one of the best tournament­s ever organised for under-12 youth in Sabah.

General manager of SSB Penyuki Matta, representi­ng his chairman Datuk Louis Rampas as guest-ofhonour gave away the prizes along with Anthony and Dr Tan Bee Hwai.
