Bus driver denies pointing knife at wife

KOTA KINABALU: A bus driver claimed trial at the Magistrate's Court here yesterday to threatenin­g his wife by pointing a knife and trying to stab her.

Johan Jumrin, 43, who appeared before magistrate Cindy Mc Juce Balitus, was charged under Section 506 of the Penal Code with pointing the sharp weapon and attempting to injure his spouse at a house at Kampung Kalansanan in Inanam at 6.15pm on January 25.

The offence is punishable by a maximum jail term of seven years or a fine, or both, upon conviction.

Meanwhile, in a separate case, two siblings faced a joint charge of obstructin­g a policeman from doing his job.

Rahman Ghani, 42 and his brother Fazal Ghani, 37, who are shop owners, pleaded not guilty in the same court to prevent the cop from carrying out his duty at a grocery shop at Kampung Mansiang in Menggatal at 1.30pm on March 2.

Their charge, under Section 186 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 34 of the same Code, provides for a jail term of up to two years or a fine, or both, upon conviction.

The magistrate fixed March 24 this year for the case management of Johan, Rahman and Fazal.

The court released Johan on RM4,000 bail while Rahman and Fazal were granted RM5,000 bail each, all with two local sureties each.
