-

KUALA LUMPUR: The Communications and Mutimedia Ministry (KKMM) said 10 communications towers have been completed and are operating to offer cellular service in Keningau.

“Two additional communications towers are being built and expected to be ready by the second quarter of this year while 32 existing communications towers are upgraded to 3G mobile broadband service for the benefit of residents in the Keningau Parliamentary constituency,” added KKMM.

The ministry disclosed this in a written reply to a question from Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan (BN-Keningau) in the Dewan Rakyat yesterday.

Pairin had wanted to know the number of Internet and telecommunications substations in Keningau.

Deputy Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Jailani Johari meanwhile disclosed that RM4 million was allocated to upgrade eight post offices in Sarawak.

He said the process of upgrading these post offices in stages, included the Kapit Post Office which would start next month.

“The process is one of the postal transformation programmes and expected to be completed by the first quarter of 2018,” he said when replying to Datuk Wilson Ugak Kumbong (BN-Hulu Rajang) on the upgrading of the post office in Kapit town during the questionand-answer session.

To provide better postal service in rural areas and support the local e-commerce industry, Jalani said eight 1Malaysia Internet Centre (P1M) in Sabah and Sarawak had merged with Pos Malaysia Berhad to become the hub to transport marketing produce of the local community.

“Five P1M in Sabah and three in Sarawak have merged with Pos Malaysia to provide special packaging package with cheap rates to deliver goods of the local industry,” he said.
