Fabian, Hyenie victorious in HQE2RUN
KOTA KINABALU: Fabian Osmond and Hyenie Roslin came out top in the Men’s and Women’s Open categories of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital II Run (HQE2RUN) which was held here over the weekend.
Fabian’s win in the 9km run also ended highly rated runner Wincentbert Latius’s dominance in similar events in the state.
Wincentbert settled for second place with Januin Johny coming in third in the inaugural event.
In the women’s open, Hyenie saw off the challenges from Medeliene See Lie Chie and Erristina Joel for the top podium finish, with the latter settling for second and third placing.
There were also categories for veteran runners where Ruston Masri and Kona Liau emerged as winners.
Ruston edged fierce rivals Yusof Tungkob and Guianus Salagan for the men’s veteran title while Kona, as expected, clinched the women’s veteran title with Chong Vun Lung and Su Chong Yeong in second and third place respectively.
The top three winners received RM500, RM300 and RM200 while the fourth and fifth placed winners received consolation prizes of RM100 and the sixth to tenth placing RM50 each.
QEH II Sports Club organised the HQE2RUN 2017 themed ‘Colour Splash’ in collaboration with MS Sports & Event Management.
State Health Department director Datuk Dr Christina Rundi flagged off the race which attracted close to 2,000 participants.
Also present were QEH II director Dr Hj Razak Tambi, State Health Department deputy director (management) Dr Muharrir Kamarudin and assistant medical director Dr Abu Ubaidah Sainuri.
Dr Christina was happy with the successfully held run, which she described as an ideal platform for QEH II staff to interact with the locals apart from promoting a healthy lifestyle.
QEH II Sports Club president Joseph Kajangan thanked all the sponsors including the main sponsor Legacy Group Sdn Bhd for their support.
Razak, on the other hand, said the response from the runners as well as sponsors was great and hoped for continued support in future events.
Apart from the run, the day also saw many activities held including face-painting, zumba and lucky draws.
