SEMPORNA: Parti Warisan Sabah Semporna secretary Abdul Rashid Bin Maamun, 72, lodged a police report at the district police station yesterday over a social media posting about the death of Datuk Seri Haji Mohd Shafie bin Haji Apdal (the party president).

District police chief Superintendent Peter Umbuas said the report was lodged in respect of a social media posting on March 8 where Shafie was said to have been admitted to a hospital due to a stroke and had passed away.

Peter said the report was lodged between 10 am and 11am, while about 50 supporters of the party who were also in the compound of the police station, did not create any issue or problem.

In Tawau, district police chief ACP Fadil bin Hj Marsus said he received one similar report from the chief coordinator of Parti Warisan Sabah, at about 10 am on March 9.

The post was written by Facebook account owner, Tom Angelripper.

The complainant told the police that the statement was untrue and it defamed Shafie, who was still alive and attended the parliamentary meeting on that day.

Fadil said the police would investigate this case under Section 500 of the Penal Code/233 Communication and Multimedia Act 1998.

Meanwhile, another police report was lodged at Penampang Police Station by Warisan information chief Honorsius Datuk Alfred Bosiun at around 9.53 am yesterday.

Honorsius, who led members of the Warisan Headquarters Committee in making the report, said it was very unbecoming of this person “Tom Angelripper” to fabricate lies and spread such news over the demise of Warisan’s president who was attending Parliament sitting yesterday in Kuala Lumpur.

“We want stern action against this ‘Tom’ by the authorities concerned, including the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC),” he said, adding that under the State Native Courts law, the culprit can be subjected to a “sogit” or fine.
