Man charged with drug traffickin­g

KOTA KINABALU: A 41-yearold man was charged with traffickin­g in 51.75 grams of syabu at the Magistrate’s Court here yesterday.

No plea was taken from Sudi Asdali, who was brought before magistrate Cindy Mc Juce Balitus, pending his chemist report.

He faces the mandatory death sentence for allegedly traffickin­g in the drugs at Lorong Kemajuan 2 in Taman Kemajuan here at 3.45pm on February 25 under Section 39B (1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

Sudi was also charged with consuming syabu at the Narcotics Crime Investigat­ion Department here on the same day under Section 15 (1)(a) of the Act.

The indictment carries a jail term of up to two years or a maximum fine of RM5,000, upon conviction.

The court fixed April 6 this year for mention and ordered the unrepresen­ted accused to be further detained in custody, pending disposal of the case.

In a separate case, a 68-year-old father of 10 children was charged with possessing 0.13 grams of syabu.

Mohamad Osman, who appeared before the magistrate, was charged under Section 12 (2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries a maximum fine of RM100,000 or a jail term of up to five years or both, on conviction.

He was caught committing the alleged offence at Kampung Sembulan in Sadong Jaya here at 12pm on March 2.

No plea was taken from Mohamad, pending the production of his chemist report.

Counsel P. J. Perira, who represente­d Mohamad, prayed for a lower bail sum on the grounds that his client is a senior citizen and unemployed.

The court set RM3,000 bail with RM1,800 deposited with two local sureties, pending disposal of the case.

Prosecutin­g officer Inspector James Paran prosecuted in both cases.
