SS90'S FC to compete in AVFCF tourney in Bangkok
KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Stars 90s Football Club (SS90'S FC) will be joining the inaugural Asean VIP Football Club Federation (AVFCF) six-corner tournament in Bangkok, Thailand on May 6-7, this year.
SS90'S FC spokesman Hashim Hamza said they received a formal invitation three days ago and agreed to take part after receiving verbal notice about it in January.
Hashim received the invitation from AVFCF founder Dr Rawipass Klamtawee (who is also president of the Asian Tug-of-War Federation) when the latter paid a courtesy call on the Youth and Sports Ministry here three days ago.
“This will be our largest participation outside the country this year and we will try our best as Malaysia's sole representative in the tournament,” he said, yesterday.
He said SS90'S FC also took part in the Starbol 7's International Championship in Jakarta, Indonesia last October. They emerged as champions from 10 teams that took part.
He said there was no special preparation for the club to go into the tournament in Bangkok although they had been actively playing matches last year including several for charity.
In March alone there are four friendly matches against YB FC Kota Belud (March 4 Kota Kinabalu Sports Complex), OMB FC Kudat (March 11, KKSC), JP FC (March 18, KKSC) and SESB Beaufort (March 25, Beaufort).
“We consider these friendly matches as our preparation to face the challenges in Bangkok and we hope they suffice,” Hashim said.
The ACFCF tournament which would be held at the National Rajamangala Stadium will feature host team Lovers FC Thailand, Kwarta FC Indonesia, Old Blues FC Myanmar, Laos, Cambodia and SS90'S Malaysia.
