Expedite Cinta Mata Water Dam project call

-

TAWAU: Sabah Democratic Action Party (DAP) secretary Chan Foong Hin urged the government to expedite the Cinta Mata Water Dam project to resolve the Tawau water issue.

Chan, who is also Sri Tanjong assemblyman, said the construction of the Cinta Mata Water Dam had long been awaited by the Tawau public.

The project implementation was deferred for two years after the project scope was changed.

“I would like to remind our Energy, Green Technology and Water Minister Datuk Seri Dr Maximus Ongkili, of what he had said at Sin Onn Market, Tawau during his Chinese New Year visit this year.

“He said the RM640 million Cinta Mata Dam project at Gudang Empat was set to get off the ground following approval of the allocation early this year by the Economic Planning Unit.

“He also told us that the tender for the project undertaken through a loan agreement between th e state government and federal government would be called soon. So, what is the status now?” Chan questioned.

He said the deferred Cinta Mata Water Dam project was said to commence in June last year, as promised by Tawau member parliament Datuk Mary Yap.

According to Chan, Tawau experienced its most critical water supply situation last year.

The areas which experienced water problems were Sin Onn, Sin Onn-Tiku, Kubota Road, Ranggu, Kg. Tinagat, Kg Batu Payung, Kg Kausing, PPRT Mile 8, Mile 3 Apas to Bandar Sri Indah at Mile 10 Apas Road and the surrounding areas.
