Keningau records better SPM results

KENINGAU: Keningau’s 2016 Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examinatio­n results recorded an increase in the District Average Grade (GPD) of 5.75 compared to 5.81 in 2015, said District Education senior officer Masly Wahip here.

He said that this showed an increase of 0.06.

“SMK Tulid is the most outstandin­g in terms of increasing School Average Grade (GPS), recording an increase from 5.79 in 2015 to 5.39 in 2016, an increase of 0.4,” he told The Borneo Post here Thursday.

Massly said other schools which recorded GPS improvemen­t were SMK Bingkor with 6.01 in 2016 compared to 6.41 in 2015, SMK Apin-Apin with 6.15 in 2015 to 5.79 in 2016, SMK Gunsanad with 5.84 in 2016 compared to 6.09 in 2015 and SMK Keningau II with 5.64 in 2016 compared to 5.74 in 2015.

He said 14 students obtained at least 8A’s and above. The students are Nursyazfer­a Rosli of SMK Keningau (10A’s), Mohd Habib Hafi Muti of SMK Agama (10A’s), Ivy Pang Chiang Chiang of SM Ken Hwa(10A’s), Joshua Lee Chee Kiong of SM Ken Hwa(9A’s) Chong Wen Jia of SM Ken Hwa(9A’s) Adzrul Danin @ Mohd Faiz SMK Keningau II(9A’s), Nichalson Jinus of SMK Keningau II(9A’s), Renelda Erna Roger of SMK Keningau II(8A’s), Jeanrica Angie Juscerik of SMK Keningau(8A’s), Abdul Hadi Fatah Mahian of SMK Agama(8A’s), Didinadira Charles Fung of SM Ken Hwa(8A’s), Nur Athira Jais of SM Ken Hwa(8A’s), Avigarl Asis of SMK Gunsanad II(8A’s) and Eren Nor Pertiwi Mohd Putra of SM St Francis Xavier(8A’s).

He said two other schools, SMK Gunsanad recorded an increase in GPS at 5.84 in 2016 compared to 6.09 in 2015 and SMK Keningau II from 5.74 in 2015 to 5.64 in 2016.

Masly said that the increase in district average grade was due to the successful implementa­tion of the District Transforma­tion Program under the Malaysian Education Developmen­t Plan.

In addition, he said, the success was also driven by the effectiven­ess of the Academic Program managed by the respective schools.

“The involvemen­t of the community and outside agencies such as Bank Rakyat, RISDA and SPM Tutor Program contribute­d by Pensiangan Member of Parliament have been of much help, other than parents’ awareness on the importance of children’s education,” he said.

Masly said that out of 2,201 SPM candidates last year 1,879 or 85.32 per cent were eligible to get their certificat­es.

Nichalson Jinus SMK Keningau II obtained 9A’s, 1B + in the SPM exam and he attributed his success to his determinat­ion and focus in class.

“Constant revision and doing homework without fail, sticking to set study schedule, playing as well learning are his secrets to success.

Nichalson said he studied six to seven hours, making notes and revising his notes.

He said in the evening, he studied from 7pm to 9pm and got up as early as 4am again.

In addition to learning, badminton and chess are his favorite sports.

This Kg Toboh Baru lad is the youngest of three siblings and will continue his studies at Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) in the field of education in line with his ambition to become a teacher.

Nichalson and another top scorer Azrul Danin @ Mohd Faiz scored 9A’s, 3B + were among the 317 candidates of SMK Keningau 11 who sat for their SPM.
