13 score straight A’s in Lahad Datu
LAHAD DATU: Eight of nine secondary schools in the district have improved their School Average Grade (GPS) in last year’s Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination results.
District education officer Zamri Pehakan Thursday said only one school, SMK Desa Kencana, dropped in GPS.
Overall, he said, the SPM 2016 results here have improved with Lahad Datu recording a GPS of 5.54 with an increase of 0.07 compared to 5.61 in 2015.
Zamri said the number of top scorers also increased from six in 2015 to 13 in 2016, an increase of more than 50 per cent.
Among the top scorers are Gan Min Hing (8A+ and 3A), Jeeven Ravi (8A+ and 1A-), Ilya Maisarah Binti Julani (5A+ and 4A) from SMK Agaseh; Zul Asnawi Zaiman (6A+,3A), Sitti Nurazida Marujua (5A+,3A,1A-), Azlan Betrus (4A+,5A), Mohammad Amirul Ikhwan Hassan (4A+,4A,1A-), Muhammad Takbir Idham Jepre (4A+,2A,3A), Nur Izzah Safura Haris (3A+,5A,1A-), Nor Shakira Amring (3A+,4A,2A-) and Mohd Firdaus Rosly (3A+,3A,3A-) of SM Sains Lahad Datu; and Lee Wun Hua (3A+,6A-) and Brenda Yusak (2A+,6A,1A-) from SM St Dominic.
Lee owes his outstanding performance to his mother who passed away in April last year.
Aiming to become an engineer or lecturer, Lee said he had to put in a lot of hard work and went for tuition.
He was happy that his sacrifices had paid off as he was under pressure to study after losing his mother.
Meanwhile, Mohd Firdaus said group study and knowledge sharing with friends contributed to his success.
Instead of following his parents who are teachers, Mohd Firdaus aspires to purse the medical field to help people, especially those in need.
His mother, Nor Janah Daah, said she was very happy that their first son had set a good example to his siblings.
