Lawyer claims trial to RM500,000 CBT charges

KUALA LUMPUR: A real estate lawyer claimed trial in the Sessions Court yesterday to three criminal breach of trust charges involving more than RM500,000, two years ago.

On the first charge, Yuen Kwong Wai, 52, allegedly misappropr­iated RM332,100 entrusted to him by Chew Chee Chin to pay to Loo Jiun Yi and Wong Chee Keong for the purchase of a property on Aug 20, 2015.

On the second charge, he allegedly misappropr­iated RM147,797.21 entrusted to him by Mohd Suhaimi Mohd Rafie, Sivanyavam and Ros Aziah Othman to pay to Abdul Rahman Ahmad for the purchase of a property on Oct 10, 2014.

He allegedly committed the two offences at his legal firm, Yuen & Co, in Jalan Sri Hartamas 7, Taman Sri Hartamas here, between April 9, 2015 and Jan 14, 2016.

On the third charge, Yuen allegedly misappropr­iated RM118,500 entrusted to him by Chew to pay to Loo and Wong in regard to the same sale and purchase agreement.

He is accused of committing the offence at the same place between June 9, 2015 and Oct 13, 2015.

The charges framed under Section 409 of the Penal Code, carries a maximum 20 years imprisonme­nt and whipping, and liable to a fine each, on conviction.

Judge Zaman Mohd Noor set RM30,000 as bail with one surety and ordered the accused to surrender his passport to the court as well as to report to the police station every month pending disposal of the case.

The court also set April 21 for remention.

Deputy public prosecutor Amira Sariaty Zainal appeared for the prosecutio­n while counsel Pang Teck Yaw represente­d the accused.

Last Feb 17, Yuen claimed trial in the same court to two similar charges involving almost RM400,000, allegedly committed about three years ago.
