-

SEREMBAN: A policeman drowned while attempting to retrieve the cover of an ice box which fell into the sea while he was fishing off Port Dickson yesterday morning.

In the incident about 10.30am, Noramirul Ashraf Rahma, 27, who was with two friends on the fishing trip near Pulau Asam Kampung Sungai Sekawang, Pasir Panjang braved strong currents to grab the cover.

However, the Bukit Aman Special Branch policeman was swept away by the currents before his body was found about two hours later.

Port Dickson police deputy chief DSP Zainudin Ahmad said the victim and his two friends had arrived on Pulau Asam the night before.

This morning, the trio went fishing out at sea when the ice box cover fell off the fishing boat.

"The victim drowned when he tried to retrieve the cover as the water currents were strong," Zainudin told Bernama yesterday. - Bernama
