Fake documents land two illegals in jail

KOTA KINABALU: A man was jailed for 30 months by the Magistrate’s Court here yesterday for using a fake MyPR.

Marcus Darius, 32, who was brought before magistrate Cindy Mc Juce Balitus, admitted to committing the offence in front of a counter at the National Registration Department (NRD) here at 10.50pm on March 21.

He had used the fake MyPR under his name, bearing the numbers 850510-12-5753.

He was charged under Section 25(1)(e) of the National Registration Regulations 1990, which provides for a jail term of up to three years or a fine, upon conviction.

In pleading for a lenient sentence, the unrepresented accused told the court that he is the sole breadwinner of three children and a wife.

Meanwhile, prosecuting officer from the NRD urged for an appropriate sentence as the offence involved national security.

The court also ordered Marcus to be referred to the Immigration Department after serving his sentence.

Based on the facts of the case, the MyPR number was checked at the registration department and it was shown that the number was fake.

Meanwhile, the same court sentenced an 18year-old cook to 25 months’ jail for possessing a MyKad belonging to another man.

The magistrate passed the sentence on the youth after he pleaded guilty to a charge under Section 25(1)(o) of the National Registration Regulations 1990, which carries a jail term of up to three years or a fine, on conviction.

He was caught in possession of a MyKad under the name of Davin Basir bearing the numbers 000817-12-0673, along Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman near Wisma KFC here at 12.30pm on Feb 28.

Counsel Michelle Rossana Usman, who represented the youth, applied for a lenient sentence on the grounds that he is a youthful offender and had committed an offence for the first time.

The court also ordered the youth to serve his jail term from the date of arrest and to be deported after serving his sentence.
