Nine shophouses razed in midnight fire

PORT DICKSON: Nine houses and a shophouse were affected in a fire at Kampung Air Meleleh, here at midnight on Thursday.

Head of the Port Dickson Fire and Rescue Station Razif Mohmad Haris said the station received a distress call at 12.28 this morning and arrived at the scene three minutes later with 10 personnel.

"The fire involved nine semi-permanent houses and a shophouse and of this number, five units were 95 per cent destroyed while five others were 70 per cent affected.

"The fire was brought under control completely at 12.36 am, six minutes after we arrived. No casualty was reported and all the victims were placed at Sekolah Kebangsaan Gelam. The Social Welfare Department will attend to their problems," he said when contacted by Bernama yesterday.

The operation was also assisted by six members of the Teluk Kemang Fire and Rescue Station while the Seremban 2 Fire and Rescue Station sent four personnel, he said.
